Help NCADD celebrate 69 years of service in Central Mississippi!
National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) of the Central MS Area 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, 69th Annual Celebration Dinner will feature Keynote Speaker, Ryan Leaf a former college standout QB at Washington State University, chosen #2 overall in the 1998 NFL draft, just after Peyton Manning, by the San Diego Chargers. He went on to play five years in the NFL for four different teams, including Tampa Bay, Dallas, and Seattle. While he was one of the most highly touted quarterbacks ever to come out of college, after five seasons in the NFL, his career was full of expectations that he didn’t fulfill. That accompanied with his inability to “live life on life’s terms” as Ryan says, led him to prison for 32 months. That adversity coupled with the guidance of an unexpected ally allowed Ryan to become a symbol of peace and inspiration for those who struggle with substance abuse and mental illness. Leaf shares his life’s narrative as a former football star who had a tumultuous and public struggle with drug addiction but has now gained experience of purpose and peace through recovery.
NCADD will also honor Denise Marsters as the 2018 NCADD Annual Honoree. This award of honor presented to an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution in the fields of addiction, prevention, and/or recovery. Denise founded The McCoy House for Sober Living in 2008 which is a transitional living facility for women who have completed inpatient treatment for addiction. The Real McCoy Thrift Store recently opened as an extension of The McCoy House where residents can work and volunteer.
